Arrive in style. No valet rushing to move this lady on..

Wicklow is a natural scenic wonderland. Renowned for its scenery, the county is a beautiful mix of rolling mountains, wooded glens, cascading waterfallls and lakes. Where better to bring the gorgeous red Giulietta for a night away with girls!!

Before anyone says “that Therese one has a great life, nights away in fancy hotels” etc – this was my Christmas present!! My mum felt that time with her daughters and new daughter in law to be would be great. Naturally I was nominated to drive as Giulietta would fit in perfectly in such a lovely setting.

April meets Santa for the first time - It is clear who is the most excited by this!

There were nine of us in total and in a change from our usual three carseats in the backseat formation I again had three girls in the backseat. Similar to my trip to Beillinter House in November all the girls agreed that the backseat was completely comfportable for three adults in the rear. Spacious, comfortable and a luxurious drive. Everyone was happy!

RESEARCH…..BLOG FOLLOWERS I NEED YOUR HELP/ADVICE PLEASE!!!

Okay so all the contestants are into the last leg of the Real People competition. What a year it has been. Now we are on the home straight we have one final big task. I really need some feedback from my blog followers for this one. The project is set out below.

“We want you to create a 30” TV advert for the Alfa Giulietta and your blog should be used to provide information about the “video in the making”. Your video and blog will be judged by an external panel”

We were also given feedback on how we are currently ranking in the competition and I am not in the driving seat to win!!! Aaaagh like all the contestants I want to keep the Giulietta so much. With that in mind I would like you guys to please write me some thoughts/ ideas etc for the ad. I really so believe that the Alfa Giulietta is a family car and I would like to go with that theme. It is the category I won her for a year to drive in and  I think I could make a great ad. However this approach has not got me in the lead so far so I would really like to hear your views. Should I stick to the formula I am currently using. Namely make an ad that sells the Alfa Romeo Giulietta as a first class family car that would suit any family young or old. Or try something else completely new; a totally  different theme.

You have all been great support with the competition so far, listenting to me endlessly chatting  about our Giulietta, getting involved in tasks, posting my blogs and asking friends to read/ view and like and to compete properly for the last phase I would like to hear from you what direction I should go in!!

Ps…. With Christmas around the corner and nativity plays /trips around the country/ family commitments, parties,  etc etc  time is in serious short supply so please don’t over think this one. Just comment and respond asap.  Stick to family theme or change …. I have to get started this weekend as I can’t  spent too much time on the ad over the holidays. Thanks!!

      Hi Carol!!
Thanks so much for your comment. Everyone seems to be thinking I should stick to the family theme so I am going to follow all the advice!!Will be blogging about how the as is coming along…. Step 1
    Download this video:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oD5jcs1YBio&feature=related

    Step 2
Borrow a white Giulietta for a day.

    Step 3
Reshoot all the shots featuring Uma and kids with shots of Therese, the boys and April.

    Step 4
Splice (yes I know that’s probably a term only used for 8mm movies) re-takes into the original ad. Simple!

Well, you did say not to think about it too much.

By the way, if I had a choice between Uma and Therese for the role of Alfa Romeo ambassador I’d pick Therese – a real ‘Real Person’.

Well that’s what the competition is all about, isn’t it?

    Kind regards,

    Bryan.

  3. Bryan Leech says:

I’ve looked at the video again. You could probably just reshoot the interior shots and replace the last two shots with you own ‘reveal’ (with or without your Alfa in shot). Therefore, delete Step 2.

Seeing as your own car has changed colour this month then the ‘continuity slip’ might be forgiven.

    Kindest regards, Bryan.

      Bryan,

I don’t have any confidence issues but hang on a second…. Uma!! I just couldn’t. I would never live it down!! I have just this minute realised there is a limit to how far I would go to win the Giulietta!! Thanks so much for the input though. I know you will be following the remaining 6 closely. I think I will stick to my theme of how wonderful the Giulietta is as a family car. Might need to broaden it out though and bit….
We are having a dinner party at home tonight and I am going to get friends/ family to brainstorm and do a voiceover test run….. Should be fun! Therese

  4. Rowena says:

The flexibility of gorgeous Giulietta is amazing!! From housing 99 kids to being stylish enough to be seen in any of irelands premier sights – is there anything this car can’t do!!

    • theresecoveney says:

      HI Rownena!!

Well my dear the Giulietta is due to be launched in the USA in 2014…. so you and Christian start saving because after you travel in mine over the holidays you will WANT one!! Thanks for the comment…. Hope all is good with you T

  5. Caroline Egan says:

    • theresecoveney says:

Ahh thanks Caroline… Yes win or not my blog followers think I should stick to my category and make the ad with that in mind!! Will be back to pick your brains no doubt. Hope all is well, Thanks for the encouraging comment!! Therese

  7. Val Ryan says:

Ah you just have to stick to your plan and keep it family! You are by far the most entertaining and informative blogger.. I know more about Alfa Romeo cars than any chick I know now!!! Where this was a very exciting competition I feel it isnt voicing the public opinion- your blogs and tasks should have gained you a better position in the competion, sorry u are not up there! As your most dedicated fan I believe you will win this outright.. If not we may have a grey power riot on our hands in work.. All my Residents are avid followers of your families adventures- so the vote from the Kildare contingent is stick with ur plan.. Lots of luck.X Val

    • theresecoveney says:

Val, I feel duty bound to win it for you and all the ladies and gents in the nursing home. They were delighted looking at her last week in the flesh. All the ooohs and aaahs… Hilarious. You could see them only dying to get in and take her for a spin!! Shame they are not all on FB and maybe I would have won more tasks!! As my Kildare campaign manager I will be back you you when I have some ideas for your honest (as always) opinion!! T

  8. Lou Mullan says:

How can you not be winning??. Fabulous blog, car & family. Giulietta looks like it would be more suited to the city gal, zipping around town. Your blog musings have proved its flexibility as a car, offering that & so much more for the growing family. Stick with it & best of luck! Lou

    • theresecoveney says:

Great response Lou, thanks so much…. Great to get such positive feedback… I will stick with my theme…. Lots to do to get it right! See you soon and thanks a mill for your input xT

  9. Griff says:

What about targeting at young people for the sportiness… I know it’s difficult to understand but people see “family car” & turn off … It’s a beauty, a head turner with gadgets galore & should be appreciated by more!!!! Oh wow… I’m a poet & only now do I know it!!!! T… We are all hoping that you get to keep this beauty!!! I’m home in Feb with the kids & would like a go!!!! Xxx

    • theresecoveney says:

Oh Ciara….. throw a cat amongst the pigeons why don’t you!!! Good points though and I hear what you are saying…. YOu have been following the realpeople competition since the start so I will have to listen!!… Mind you Thomas and Ollie certainly appreciate the gadgets galore!! They would sleep in the Giulietta if they were allowed. They never stop being fascinated with the slick dashboard…. Ok now you have me thinking!! Thanks T

  10. Therese!! It has to be the family theme – we all (Shane & Anna included) love to hear about your mad adventures in Giulietta!!
I was only talking to Justo last week about upgrading our Beemer. I think it’s had it’s day! We would love a Giulietta! Perfect for famillies with all that room in the boot etc.
Maybe Santa might be good to me ;-)
    Nicola xx

    • theresecoveney says:

Hi Nicola!!! Thanks a mill for your thoughts…. Well Justin is a big fan of the competition so If I have done my job right there should be a Giulietta on his list!!!! He is welcome anytime to take mine for a test drive….. Really if he does that consider yourself an about to be Alfa owner…..HE will not be able to resist her if he takes her out!! Don’t know how I will ever drive another car again!! See you soon xx T

  11. Rachel Wystepek says:

Hi there Therese. I’ve really enjoyed reading your blogs throughout the year, which have been really really well written and definitely made me see the Giulietta in a different light. In my view if you want to stick with the family theme you should position it as a cool, trendy alternative to all the other family cars on the market i.e. the Ford Galaxys, Renaults etc . It’s the type of car that can fit all your families needs throughout the day (good boot, good space in back to fit car seats etc) but also allows you to look hip and cool when driving around town without the kids in the evening. I really hope you win it, cause you deserve to win it after the huge contribution you’ve made through the year.

    • theresecoveney says:

Great advice Rachel! Thanks for your input…. General consensus seems to be stick to the family theme so that is what I will do……. Major brainstorming required!! Really appreciate your thoughts and lovely comment xx T

  12. Karen says:

    Therese,

You have to stick with what you know. At the girls get together last week we were chatting about the competition and how you have achieved so much to be able to blog about a beautiful car through the prism of family life. Don’t change it now. I would look over the past year for your inspiration. None of us will ever forget the Alfa Romeo Giulietta. Your gorgeous car has become part of all our lives!! You must not get complacent and doubt yourselgf. Go and make a great ad and win that car!!!

  13. Audrey Crawford says:

Ok so it’s a sexy car and you wanna put sexy back into family  car. So the yummy mummy is yummy because of the car. When u pick up the boys from school all the other boys love the car cos it’s cool… All the dad’s are admiring the lines n curves of the car. And all the moms desire the car because it’s a family car but sexy.. I have a vague feeling that something similar may have been done before.  But it’s not just a great family car its a beautiful car so everybody wants it..

  14. KAthryn Clarke says:

Family all the way Therese,. So many of us hate the typical “family “car and you need to get the message out that this is perfect for families!! As audrey above says.. It is a perfect family car (haven’t we all seen that when we have travelled in yours) but you can still be cool, stylish and proud to be out in the Giulietta!! Good luck!!

  15. Bryan Leech says:

Bit out of the loop at present as I’m in Sri Lanka but doing my best to keep in touch with the Real People Competition. Now that’s dedication for you. When’s the deadline? Bryan

    • theresecoveney says:

      HI Bryan,

Wow you really are dedicated!! The deadline is 6th JAnuary. With a week in Cork in the middle that means time is tight!! I am preparing at the moment but there is still a lot to do. Have a wonderful holiday. I have never been to Sri Lanka but hear it is fab. Happy Christmas! Therese

  16. Bryan Leech says:

So far it’s fabulous apart from the fact that there are no Giuliettas to be seen. I’m sure the government would ban the importation as the sight of an Alfa Romeo would bring this crazy traffic to a standstill. When I worked in Zimbabwe in the early ’90′s I was amazed at the number of Alfasuds bombing around in Harare. I’ll be back home in time to see the ads being posted. Wouldn’t like to miss anything while I’m away. Enjoy tomorrow (we’re celebrating this evening). Kind regards, B.

  17. Bryan Leech says:

Good luck Therese, kind regards, Bryan.
