2 many happy memories to mention.
Its been a fantastic 11 months with Giulietta and the real people competition. I have to say we’ve really enjoyed the year to date. I think the competition was a really good idea and knew I’d enjoy it once I got past the initial stage.
Granted it has been hard work constantly blogging through out the whole year but I enjoyed it from the 1st month to the last.
I have to say it was a big loss to the competition when Mr Travers pulled out midway through the year. He really pushed me and kept me on his toes. He was the man to beat IMHO.
None the less thanks to Aoife in Alfa Romeo Ireland, no doubt she was a busy woman throughout the year answering emails from everyone.
I’ll finish this blog with some images of beauty:

As we are coming to the end of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Real People competition we decided to take a road trip this weekend. So we headed off after work on Friday down to the Seafield Golf and Spa Hotel in Co Wexford. Giulietta got us here in the usual style and comfort.
I would highly recommend this hotel, the accommodation, food, service, surroundings and especially the spa were fantastic. 10 out of 10.

While we were touring around Wexford we stopped off at Courtown, which was pretty quiet but had stunning views none the less.

I can’t believe it, since we got the new Alfa Romeo Giulietta Lusso in June, I haven’t had to top up the windscreen washers reservoir once, until now that is.
That’s approximately 7 months, that’s unheard of, in my last car I was filling the reservoir most weeks.

So now that the advert is completed that gives me some time to put together some outtakes from footage that I decided not to use so I could give you an idea of what was involved in shooting this advert.
There is a part of the video below about the 19 second mark which I really wanted to fit into the video, as it really showed the symmetry between the Giulietta grill and the Drogheda bridge on the M1. Unfortunately this never made it to the final production.

In the video below you will also see some shots where I setup the tripod and jumped into the car and got in 2 shots, one of the car driving away from the camera and one driving toward the camera. In the clip I tried to get as close to the camera as possible without smashing into it with the front bumper, it got close a couple of times.

Enjoy, feedback welcome.
So in my ad I wanted to try come up with something a little different to the usual ultra slick Alfa Romeo ad’s.
I begin with the “making of the Giulietta” adding in all its components and unique selling points, showing you its available colours. I then break into some driving shots, followed by the use of Billy the snake, slithering around some of the cars USP’s. After my encounter with the evil swans I wasn’t eager to work with animals again but I really wanted to use Billy. The man eating serpent is such a definitive part of the Alfa Romeo logo. Thankfully Billy isn’t man eating, maybe mouse eating.
The decision on what soundtrack to use for the ad was just as difficult as the editing. I had a shortlist of 10 from 100′s but I finally settled on Muse’s cover of “Feeling Good”. I think this track really suits the advert and reaches its peak right at the call to action.
I hope you enjoy my advert.

So the filming and production are all finished. I have had numerous friends and family up to view the almost finished product over the last few days, all who span the Giulietta’s target market, (ie Everyone).
After some constructive criticism and suggestions AND bickering there were a few small tweaks to be made. It can get difficult when you have an idea in your mind that you are trying to produce you sometimes go off on a tangent, so its good to step back and get some perspective and opinions from others to get you back on track.
So thank you to all those people that gave some input.
I would like to thank a few more people:

Going on last years Giulietta prices, all the people that have viewed the ad so far have agreed that with the Giulietta you get real value for money. Noting its unique selling points including, Blue&Me, Start/Stop technology, Hill holder to name just a few and not to mention the amazing style and performance of the Giulietta.
This was by far the most difficult task of the competition given the tight deadlines, the holiday season in the middle and the lack of previous marketing/filming experience but all in all it was very enjoyable and I wish the best of luck to my fellow contestants and look forward to seeing their ad’s.
Frank requested a picture of me filming so here is a picture taken just prior to being stuck in the boot for 30 minutes of on the road filming. Cosy!

So I asked a friend to come along and help me shoot some footage, and he kindly brought his camera also. NOT! I wish I had a friend that had a camera like this and knew how to use it, … Continue reading →

One of my advert ideas included the use of a green screen to be able to put a different background behind an object, as this was my first time attempting anything like this I was sure to hit a few bumps in the road, and that’s exactly what happened. It was taking up far too much time trying to get this right so unfortunately I had to abandon this idea.
This was the 2nd advert idea that I had had to give up on. I’ll have to keep reminding myself that I’m not a Hollywood director with a big budget, I’m only a real person.

So its been a long day in the editing suite, all day pretty much. Plenty of coffee has been had.
With only a few days to go until the deadline and the holiday period almost over I was hoping to have the majority of the advert completed by now, and I’m almost there.
I had some friends and family drop around today (all of whom are part of my target audience ie: everyone that’s old enough to drive and appreciates fine engineering) who were giving me their thoughts and opinions on my progress so far, and since then I have been tweaking my advert to suit all.
